Tonto Fish Hatchery

I am still catching up since Thanksgiving. So I will make this brief. Still up at the cabin over Thanksgiving weekend, we went to the Tonto National Forest Fish Hatchery. They breed fish here to release in all the streams, lakes and ponds in the area. It was in the millions that they release each year. Pretty cool. Anyway the surrounding area was gorgeous and it was freezing cold that day. We bundled up as best we could and hiked around again to warm up.
Colby's favorite party by far, was feeding the very large trout they had in the big pond. There were brown trout, rainbow trout and cut-throat trout. They really were beautiful, but I don't want to hold one or eat one (yuck-O)!
The picture doesn't do these fish justice, they were really big, some of them were almost 3 ft long!

The water in the smaller holding tanks was just brimming with fish, thousands in each tank, and they thought we were there to feed, so they were just jumping around. It was fun to see so many fish.
We pulled over and ate some lunch we had packed on the way out and hiked along this creek. It was really fun, and I can't say enough about the awesome things my Dad taught Colby just by being himself. I am so proud of Dad. He really is a trooper and go-getter. Not one thing (even his surgery)has stopped him from doing what he loves.
Surprise, surprise, Brody asleep again!
