Blaaaaaaaaahhh

I am finding it to be a losing battle to feed Colby dinner. The child just does not eat, even his favorite things. I know he is just in a picky toddler stage, but it is driving me nuts. So in my search to try to feed him fun foods, I made these yummy little BBQ ranch chicken and cheddar roll em'ups (that is a mouthful) from Picky Palate. I am so excited right because they look incredible and taste really yummy too.
They have everything this boy likes, bread, cheese, chicken, BBQ sauce...it was bound to be a success!
WRONG-OHHH (as we say in our house)
Wait, wait, wait for it...."Blaaaaaahhhh!" I mean, come on!! Really?? As I am typing this he is even saying, "I am not eating those things"...well he didn't and he went to bed without dinner yesterday night. This is just my strong-willed little boy. He will not bend, even if it means no dinner, even if bribed with the most scrumptious dessert or prize...nope...not Colby. I am convinced he might starve into his early childhood...unless he can eat his favorite foods. What makes his frown turn upside down?
Tortillas...I finally had a successful batch (okay I have only tried two times and my second recipe was much better than the first).
He likes them especially with ranch dressing. Wheels and Cheese, PB&J (he could eat it every day), hot dogs, spaghetti, corn dogs, all fruit especially blueberries and watermelon, anything snack like (fruit snacks, chips, crackers), and juice of any kind (see that smile).
But his favorite thing in the world....CHOCOLATE...he'll take it in any form.
Note: Chocolate here, chocolate there, chocolate everywhere!!!

The official Chocolate Coma! - I love this face...as funny as it is Colby has always been the master of making funny faces in pictures. Classic!

My birthday was July 7th! I had a great day. My sweet visiting teachers came to see me and brought me the most delicious cupcakes ever. They were so beautiful, I didn't want to eat them. Erika made everything, from scratch! The decorations and all! Isn't she incredible, and aren't I so lucky? Anyhoo, I turned the big 31. I think that was worse than turning 30 being fat and pregnant! I am like really in my 30's now! Yipes. Birthdays just are not the same when you are an adult, especially for me being away from my sisters and my sweet mama, but everyone, even Aaron remembered my big day. My amazing mama sent me some delicious treats from New Mexico, and Mel sent me a really cute outfit and jewelry, and knowing that I get to celebrate with Maudie and everyone else when I go home in a few days made it even sweeter
. Mally gave me some really cute things from her store! Aimee made the day super special, she took me to lunch and we had fun, even with the kiddos.
And thanks to Mike and Taya Matt and I were able to go to dinner in peace and enjoy a great meal at my new fav Italian place Brio. Colby gave me a darling robot card, and a movie, and Matt gave me a gift card to the App Store, and possible American Idol tickets if I want them, when we go to Dallas.
The celebration did not end there. On Sunday we celebrated with everyone and Aimee brought a delicious cake for me that Maddie decorated with roses...it was really pretty. Aimee got me the cutest sister music card and some really cute shoes! Am I spoiled or what? I feel like a little kid bragging about what I got, and if I didn't get one thing It still would have been the best birthday, but I had such a good day and I wanted to count my many blessings and remember it!

The Fourth

I feel like I have been playing catch-up since vacation, and I need to get totally caught up before we leave again! We had a great 4th. We went swimming for a good part of the day, attended a family BBQ, and then went to see fireworks. Brods looks so big in his hat and shoes. I cannot believe he is almost one years old. Colby is growing up way too fast too. Because we are never apart and because his growth is a little more subtle it is not until I go back and look at pictures from months back that I realize just how much he has changed.
The best one as we tried to bribe Colby with a promised light stick if he would just take one good picture for us. We will spare you the details of what happened next.
Brody's fav thing to do now, hold hands and walk! He giggles the whole time.

So Big. So Fast! I can't believe it.
Colby told me the other day, "mommy when Brody comed out of your belly at the hospital and I held him...that's when I first falled in love with him."
Waiting for fireworks in the hot, hot summer night! Brody was so funny, surprisingly he stayed on the blanket and did not venture into the grass. He would just crawl around the perimeter of the blanket.
One promised glo stick!
Daddy and Brods waiting for the fireworks
It was way, way past Brods bedtime, and he was getting pretty ornery close to 9pm. We kept trying to rock him to sleep, to no avail. The fireworks started a little late and Brody took about two peeks at them. They were so loud literally right over our heads, and they were like a sweet lullaby for Brody. He instantly went to sleep. Kids...aren't they crazy?

If there is one thing that I love the most about Colby, it is his enthusiasm for all things in life. I love this picture because it really captures the essence of him, if we could only add all the cute words coming out of his mouth and the hands shaking and body shaking in complete excitement then you would know my sweet Colby! He could not have been happier to see those fireworks and hear all the booming!

For The Love Of Rice

One of Brody's fav things to eat is spanish rice. I let him have the bowl for the first time and holy cow he made a mess, but he was so cute! He had to make sure that he got every last little bit out of the bowl, and he kept bringing the bowl to his mouth trying to drink it up. It was the funniest thing. I love his cute little feet hanging out of the bottom of the highchair. I am in love with all things baby. I love how they laugh at the simplest silliest things, how they savor every bite of the simplest blandest foods, and all their tiny features made so perfectly by God.

Last Vacation Pictures, Promise.

When you have been out on the beach for a week 3-4 hours a day, this is what happens.
I am not sure if Mally moved from this position the entire week!
The waves were so huge this day and the wind was blowing like crazy, but the kids didn't care!

We Celebrated Grandma Shirley's birthday on Thursday night. Mike and Taya drove out to get her in the morning and she stayed at the beach house until after a birthday dinner at the best little place called Mama D's. It is the yummiest Italian food in Newport.
The family pictures. Best one of the lot. I am not there, b/c I had a migraine. I went straight to bed after dinner.
Boys will be boys.
Sunscreen actually makes really good gel. I couldn't resist. When I brought Brods out to the beach I had to spike his hair.
Remember I told you he only ate sand like 1 or 2 times. Well he was being so cute, just picking it up and examining it.

Oh man, Brods. That whole handful went right in. I will never understand why he won't touch veggies or fruits, but is able to shove a handful of sand in. The good news: he didn't like it.
Matt and I playing trac ball. It was really fun.
And finally our last day....yay Emma! She got in the water! And liked it.

SeaWorld San Diego

I am really not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but Sea World was no that great for us. We did have fun, but it wasn't all we dreamed it up to be for the kids. Maybe it was just that every little thing that could go wrong did go wrong that day. First we slept in way later than we had planned, and then we gave Marshall and Aimee the wrong tickets and had a 25 minute detour to go back and switch those. Then about when we got there the tire on our stroller was flat, and we realized that neither one of us grabbed extra diapers for poor Brody (that left us with just two for the entire day...ummm not so good). Colby was not that ecstatic about the whole sea animal thing...so it was fun, but kind of a ho hum expensive day! But here were some of the highlights.
The dolphin show was my favorite. I can't believe how high those things jump.
This is what we did all day, sit is hot stadium seats, until the shows started. We kept sitting in the splash zone with our ponchos hoping to get soaked and we never got very wet! Bummer.
Can't go to Sea World without seeing Shamu! It was pretty cool, but not as good as the Dolphins.

Colbs and I did have fun touching the star fish in the super cold water! You even got to pick them up. I thought that was pretty cool.
These pictures don't do it justice, but the shark exhibit was really cool. The sharks were literally swimming all around us, as we rode on a moving platform enclosed in a tube of glass. Pretty cool.
Feeding the Sea Lions was really fun! Ewww! Those little fish are so icky, but I made Colby pick them up. They were really aggressive little boogers though, barking at us wildly, I know why they have the feeding tubes. Fingers would be missing.
Brods really loved watching them bark and swim around.
We had to find a place for Brody to get down and move his poor little legs. He was so tired of being cooped up in the stroller, and while it was I am sure pretty germy, this little garden area was shady and cool and let him stretch his little legs. What did he do? Crawled right to the mulch and played with it the whole time.
While resting in the shade, we really needed some serious hydration. Colby had to have a Souvenir cup and $22 later we had two drinks. Oh yeah, $22 for two drinks. Not to mention Colby drank that entire ginormongous 95 oz of Pepsi, leaving him with a serious caffeine fix for the rest of the trip! Thanks Sea World!
There were some really beautiful flowers in the little garden.
Ever since Disneyland when Colby rode splash mountain and all the other roller coasters he has loved amusement rides, so Matt took him on the ride Journey to Atlantis. I was lucky enough to spot them and catch them as they came down the FIRST drop. Colby was super happy and loved it until they went back up and did several more drops and loops, he then got scared and wanted off the ride. So I a was a little bummed I didn't get to take him on it again, but he was a brave boy!

All in all, it was pretty fun, we just had terrible luck that day. You know how it goes, you just expect the ridiculously priced food and junky souvenirs! We did manage to make it with just the two diapers for Brody. We changed him right before dinner, our last quick meal before we left the park. Well we thought we made it until we had to wait 40min for $30 pizza, and then just as we were walking out of the park, we caught a whiff of the glorious odor of baby poo. Just as we had feared. I grabbed napkins from the restaurant to fashion some sort of diaper for our 1.5 hour trip back to the beach house. Just as we were about to walk through the gates, I saw a lady that had a child about the same age, and through the kindness of a stranger I was able to have a fresh diaper for Brods! So what could have been a nightmare trip turned out okay and we had a little fun too!
